Fossilist September '24 Update: Principal Photography Wrapped
Dear Dinosaur Fans,
Can you believe it's already Fall 2024? As the leaves begin to turn here in Colorado, we're wrapping up an incredibly productive summer of principal photography for "Fossilist."
Our Summer 2024 Production Season:
We've just completed our final principal photography shoots, taking us from South Texas to Washington D.C., and up to the Black Hills in South Dakota. These shoots were crucial in rounding out our characters' stories and balancing the narrative between academic and commercial paleontologists.
In Texas, we filmed Andre Lujan at his new museum project during the solar eclipse.
At the Smithsonian, Dr. Hans Sues guided us through their impressive collection and more.
In South Dakota, Pete Larson at the Black Hills Institute shared his passion for paleontology and his vision for the field's future.
Throughout these travels, we delved deep into the latest scientific research and explored the exciting possibilities of paleontology's future. We witnessed firsthand what the golden age of paleontology might look like, engaging in fascinating discussions about new discoveries, innovative techniques, and the evolving relationship between commercial and academic paleontologists. These conversations revealed a shared vision of a future where collaboration and curiosity drive the field forward, potentially ushering in a new era of unprecedented discoveries and understanding of our prehistoric past.
Post-Production Begins:
With 21 shoots completed since early 2024, we're now diving into post-production. It's a massive undertaking, and this is where we need your help!
We Need Your Help to Finish this Film
2024 has been challenging for independent documentaries. Streaming platforms and broadcasters are providing less post-production financing, and grants have long turnaround times. We've been able to get the film through production, but post-production is where we could use your help. That's why we're turning to you, our paleontology community, through Indiegogo.
We can't bring "Fossilist" to life without you. Your support is crucial in these final steps. We're launching our Indiegogo campaign on September 17th, with exclusive perks for backers. Our trailer will go live around September 15th.
By contributing, you'll play a direct role in completing this film and sharing the fascinating world of paleontology with a global audience. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal of having the film ready for distribution by March 2025.
Join us in this prehistoric adventure! Keep an eye out for our campaign launch, share the news with fellow dinosaur enthusiasts, and consider backing our project. Together, we can unearth the story of our shared passion for dinosaurs and the future of paleontology.
Stay tuned for more updates and the trailer release. We can't wait to share this labor of love with you all!
Thank you for your continued support and curiosity,
The Fossilist Team
