What CoronaVirus Means for Filmmaking // March 2020 Update

In the midst of Coronavirus pandemic, What does this mean for filmmaking, and filmmakers moving forward.

These are trying times, and it many ways it feels like the worst is still yet to come. With updates coming in on an hourly basis, we' have decided to pause on upcoming shoots until the situation has subsided, and who truly knows when that will be. The expectation that life is on hold for the next 8 to 10 weeks seems overwhelming but important to stop the spread of this virus and for our film crew to do our part to flatten the curve.

However, during this time of self - quarantine becomes a much welcomed opportunity to slow-down and focus. Focus on writing the film, editing the footage and further developing the story, and plotting points on google maps for next series of adventures to explore Southern Utah. This time may seem very uncertain, however, perhaps it’s a good time to focus on art.

For the Traverse Image crew behind On Strange Soil, this is allowing us much needed to sit-down and focus on writing and truly understanding the story and message of the film. The life of a filmmaker is very much a balancing act between client work, and making feature length films, and perhaps the silver lining of this quarantine period is to allow us time to truly hone in on writing the film. With over 3.5 years of film, and over 20 interview and characters to sort through, the ability to get away from the edit bay and back to the laptops to write the story is much desired break to make a truly inspiring film.
